Our apartments are found in Riomaggiore, the first fraction of Cinque Terre that one finds moving from La Spezia towards the West. Located in the area of the Parco Nazionale delle Cinque Terre (National Park of Cinque Terre) and overlooking the Area Marina Protetta delle Cinque Terre (Marine Protected Area of Cinque Terre), it stands along the narrow valley of Rio Maior, an old river now covered, from which its name comes from. Buildings are scattered along its path, descending towards the sea. Its inhabitants (approximately 1500) live in a balance between the agricultural and seaside tradition and the innovative boost inevitably coming from the tourist growth.
The tourism sector, in fact, could easily develop thanks to the fast links with La Spezia, which is only one rail stop or a few minutes away by car. It is linked to the second village of Cinque Terre, Manarola, by the railway and the coastal road but also by an evocative path known as “Via dell’Amore” (“Road of Love”), that can be covered on foot in approximately 20 minutes. The municipality of Manarola is part of Riomaggiore together with the hamlets of Groppo and Volastra.
